May the GA4th be with you!
You may have seen an email sent to you by Google Analytics a few weeks ago about the sunsetting of Universal Analytics (UA) in 2023. It sounds like a long way away, but you need to take action now.
Universal Analytics can be thought of as Google Analytics version 3 and has been in it’s recent form since 2017, with Google Analytics v1 launching way back in 2005!
Google Analytics 4, or GA4, was released in 2020. Recently, we have built most of our client’s websites with both UA and GA4 installed in anticipation that UA will soon no longer be supported. It has been useful to use UA in parallel with GA4 as many 3rd party applications still only connect to the UA API, but we also wanted our clients to be setup with GA4 when the sunset time eventually came.
Why do I need to take action now?
You need to do something now so that when UA sunsets on July 1 2023, you have at least 12 months of historical data in your new GA4 account. Businesses, or their agencies, often need to look back at the previous year to compare performance or make predictions on upcoming busy campaign or sales periods.
If your Google Analytics account is connected to other 3rd party tools such as our advertising AI or SEO platforms, they need a good amount of historical data to be able to make decisions and recommendations.
You should have GA4 installed by the end of June 2022!
What should I do?
- Log in to Google Analytics for
- Check your Properties & Apps and you should see a property with a number starting with “UA-XXXXXXXXX-X” – this is your Universal Analytics property
- You may also see another property with just 9 numbers and possibly a name with “GA4” on the end – this is your GA4 property
- If you don’t have a GA4 property, contact us and receive a 50% discount on installing Google Analytics for £115 (normally £230)
Don’t leave it too late, upgrade to GA4 today. Offer ends June 24, 2022.
